Around Scilly with Joe!

The 2 Spoonbill were still hanging out on Green Island

  At 09.30 on a bright sunny calm morning, Higgo and I joined Lewis Johnson and Joe Pender on the Sapphire for a trip around the islands. Twenty minutes on St Agnes and the only bird of note was a Woodcock, flushed by Bella. Off Samson there were 100s of gulls including the same 3 Common Gull I saw at Porthloo two days ago. They were feeding with 50+Black-headed and 3 Mediterranean Gull. The 2 Spoonbill were hanging out with the gulls on Green Island and approaching Bryher there were the 3 Whooper Swan from October just off Church Quay. On the opposite side feeding in the west fields of Tresco, were the 6 Pink-footed Geese. Just coming out of Tresco Channel into The Roads and there were 4 Bar-tailed Godwit and a immature Long-tailed Duck. In The Roads, Joe spotted the Juvenile Surf Scoter but it spotted us first and flew strongly towards Guthers. A steam out towards Round Island and we got good views of a female Eider. Just off Higher Quay, St Martins, there was a single Adult Mediterranean Gull and as we passed Bar Point, St Mary's, we finished off with 2 female Common Scoter before arriving home at St Mary's quay some four hours later, 13.30.

Just across the road from the swans were the 6 Pink-footed Geese on Tresco

Then Joe spotted the Surf Scoter but the scoter spotted us first along ways off and was gone!

4 Mediterranean Gull were seen with 3 off Samson and this adult off St Martins

And an ideal way to end off with 2 female Common Scoter off Bar Point, St Martins

  On dry land, I had a bite to eat at Little Porth where there was the Black Redstart and then made my ways to Newford Duckpond and got one of the Yellow-browed Warbler. At Porth Hellick, there were 10+Brambling, 2 Siskin and a single lesser Redpoll,  Firecrest and 2 vocal Siberian Chiffchaff. On the pool there were 6 Teal.

  Elsewhere on St Mary's by other observers, there was a Short-eared Owl on the Garrison and at Longstones there were single Mistle Thrush, Hawfinch, Bullfinch and 3 Brambling
