2nd HUDSONIAN WHIMBREL for Scilly

Juvenile HUDSONIAN WHIMBREL showing well at Gimble Porth, Tresco

First thing this morning, news came on that the Hudsonian Whimbrel was still present on Tresco. At 09.00, with other birders, we arrived at high tide Gimbrel Porth to find the whimbrel being very obliging as it walked up and down the beach just in front of us. It didn't take long till it was up in the air and made a short flight showing off the dark rump and dusky underwing, before settling back down again on the beach. Just before I left, to go and look for yesterdays Pallas's Warbler on Pool Road, the bird got up once more, but returned again to feed.

This is the 2nd scilly record of Hudsonian Whimbrel for Scilly after one in September 2008 at Porthloo, St Mary's

Although the Pallas's was seen very briefly at Rosefield Crossroads, I was somewhere else watching a Firecrest on Pool Road. At Carn Near, waiting for the boat to come in, the juvenile Osprey made a low pass fishing and following the shore line towards Pentle Bay.

The only new bird today was a Ortolan Bunting on st Martins. The Red-flanked Bluetail has moved on from St agnes, but on St Mary's, both the BLYTH'S and the Red-throated Pipit are still present on Penninis.
