Pectoral Sandpiper at Porth Hellick

The third Pectoral Sandpiper this autumn was this juvenile at Porth Hellick

Just after 13.00, I got a call from Robin telling me that he had a juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper at Porth Hellick. I contacted everyone and within minutes I was watching it in front of the Sussex Hide. Two visitors first saw it and thought it was a Jack Snipe. They put Robin on to it and re-identified it as a Canada Goose! Well it is brown with white underparts. I guess it's got a longer neck and is slightly bigger and could eat a Pectoral Sandpiper whole! Maybe two at the same time!
On The Garrison there were only a single Reed Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff and 2 Spotted Flycatcher and I observed 14 Siskin fly south towards St Agnes. Elsewhere of note I got 2 Whinchat, 1 Pied and 8 Spotted Flycatcher, 6 Willow Warbler, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Grey and 14 White  Wagtail.

Juvenile Canada Goose!

Yesterday in the Salakee fields I got 12 Yellow Wagtail. Before this, 9 was the largest number that I had ever seen on Scilly. Note that the last three pics show a cold looking individual with a long prominent superciluim. Possibly showing some eastern origins? I did hear one of the wagtails give a buzz 'type' call twice, but the bird was out of sight when I heard it. Any comments welcome.

Still seeing Clouded Yellows around

In the last few days there has been a lot of common migrants arriving on the off islands and today there was a Redstart on Bryher and a Wryneck and flyover Garganey on St Martins. On the 9th Paul St Perrier was having a good run with  a Corncrake, Icterene Warbler and 2 Wryneck on Bryher and 28 Siskin on Tresco. The following day on St Agnes, Bob Dawson was looking to have a BBQ on the beach at Porth Goose and stubbled on to a Ortolan Bunting! Also Will Scott had a Wryneck at Bants Carn, St Mary's.
