Early Yellow-browed Warbler at Higher Moors

The second earliest record of a Yellow-browed Warbler on Scilly by one day was at Higher Moors.

  Over night heavy rain and the following morning there was an obvious increase in birds. At first light, Kevin Cade found a dead Spotted Crake on Trench Lane. Shortly afterwards he got a Wryneck at the west end of Old Town Bay followed by the second earliest arrival date of Yellow-browed Warbler that was at Higher Moors. The latter species, I managed to see with a single Pied Flycatcher and 10+Willow Warbler and as I was just leaving, when it started to call. After my personal record of 12 Yellow Wagtail two days ago at Salkee, I went and found 20 at Pelistry with 23 Wheatear! Feeding with them was the interesting grey and white wagtail that I had Salkee. Darren Mason contacted me to say he had a Wryneck at Deep Point Quarry and 60 Wheatear in the area. I very briefly saw the Wryneck, but in the Giants Castle/airfield area, I got over 80 Wheatear, 24 Meadow Pipit, 30+alba Wagail, 5 whinchat, male and female Merlin. Another text, this time from John Headon and he had briefly a Pectoral Sandpiper join the juvenile, that turned up yesterday, at Porth Hellick. Later, it was discovered that it had been at Lower Moors before showing at Porth Hellick with 2 Green Sandpiper.  Elsewhere I got 4 Spotted and another Pied Flycatcher.

Yellow-browed Warbler at Higher Moors

I relocated the interesting wagtail with 19 Yellow Wagtail at Pelistry that I had two days ago at Salkee. Note the necklace and white throat in the front on shots and in the bottom pic, the darker upperparts, darker centers on the greater coverts and darker tertails compared to the wagtail it's feeding with. Also the wing bars seem to appear broader. Any comments welcome

Over 300 Wheatear were on St Mary's including over 130 at Deep Point/Porth Hellick Down area with another 50+, St Martins and 20+, St Agnes. Also 100+Meadow Pipit were at Deep Point.

  Paul St Perrier turned up a juvenile Red-backed Shrike at the campsite area with 6 Whinchat on Bryher where the Icterene Warbler was refound at Popplestones. On St Agnes, Bob Dawson kept his run of finding rare birds with a Barred Warbler in the Chapel Fields. A Wryneck was also on St Martins at Little Arthur Farm.

The “Blairite” candidate Liz Kendall came last on 4.5%. Minutes after his victory, Corbyn said the message is that people are “fed up with the injustice and the inequality” of Britain. “The media and many of us, simply didn’t understand the views of young people in our country. They were turned off by the way politics was being conducted. We have to and must change that. The fightback gathers speed and gathers pace,” he said. The north London MP is one of the most unexpected winners of the party leadership in its history, after persuading Labour members and supporters that the party needed to draw a line under the New Labour era of Blair and Gordon Brown. Corbyn is now working on put together a shadow cabinet and frontbench team. He has said he wants to make it “as inclusive as possible”, but some of the party’s most high-profile figures have said they will not serve under him.
