5th Scilly Desert Wheatear

Juvenile Dotterel at Porth Hellick Down

It came alive today and started off when Will Scott observed a GLOSSY IBIS flying in over Higher Moors towards Porth Hellick, mid-morning. Shortly afterwards it was picked up over New Grimbsy, Tresco. 12.30 and I got a text about a juvenile Dotterel at Porth Hellick Down and Robin and I had cracking views as it fed on one the main paths. This was short lived when Will Scott informed us that he had just had a female DESERT WHEATEAR, the 5th for Scilly hot on the heels of the male on St Agnes in March, in a Hawthorn at Sandy Lanes while he was going back to work. The bird had flown off over the pine belt towards Sunnyside. We raced to Sandy Lanes, but unfortunately there was no sign of it for the rest of the day. Just before 15.00 Higgo called to tell me that him and Steve Dodgson had a Spotted Sandpiper at Stinking Porth, Bryher and this was followed by John Headon seeing the Glossy Ibis fly NE over the Tresco New Inn. Also the long staying Wryneck was still at the quarry, Deep Point and a Yellow-browed Warbler was on Bryher.

A very confiding juvenile Dotterel spending it's time on one of the paths at Porth Hellick. Martin went up later and there was no sign of it, but up to 30-40 Wheatear were on the move

I only saw 1 Whinchat today

The 3 Pectoral Sandpiper were still present at Porth Hellick

Pablo had other ideas and wanted his photo taken instead

Saw Alexi Murdoch some 8 years ago at Hotel Cafe, Hollywood. Alexi Murdoch (born 27 December 1973) is a British musician and songwriter, currently living in Berlin. Murdoch moved to America in 1992 to study at Duke University, before moving to Los Angeles, California to be with a girlfriend. He first gained notice when an influential Los Angeles DJ, Nic Harcourt, began playing his music on the radio station KCRW. It led to much interest from the LA's music industry, which Murdoch largely ignored, turning down advances from record labels and opting to release his music independently.
