Corn Bunting at the airfield

Corn Bunting on Scilly turn up almost every year, but this bird that Martin Goodey took at the airfield, was a Scilly tick for me!

As it's a Scilly tick, yesterday afternoon I thought that I should go and look at the Corn Bunting that was found 6 days ago at the airfield. Although they are almost annual on the islands, I've never bothered to go and twitch one, because of work or thinking another will turn up and I'll get that one. Although brief, it payed off as the bird perched on top of gorse before flying off. Down the road the GREAT BLUE HERON was showing well at Lower Moors with a single Snipe. At Maypole I got my first Turtle Dove of the year and there was a single Tree Pipit at Holy Vale.
Dave Rosair came across a Purple Heron on Bryher and up to 3 Night Heron were still being seen at Lower Moors with a single adult in Willows at the Abbey Pool, Tresco.
Today, a male Golden Oriole was heard singing in the Parsonage, St Agnes and I got Will Wagstaffs HOODED CROW that he found at Porth hellick over a week ago, in Elms in the center of Old Town as I drove past

Also on the airfield were a male Continental Stonechat, 2 Wheatear and 60+ Linnet.

There were also 3 Black-headed Gull on the pool

The GREAT BLUE HERON was looking a bit sorry for itself in yesterday morning drizzle

An hour of preening and it was looking good again as the sun was just starting to break through

This stunning Dunlin was on the nearby beach until it was flushed by dog walkers
