Chesney having a bad hair day!

Up to 9 Hoopoe were seen today on Scilly, but I just saw this Garrison individual again

With Chesney, I went for a short walk around the campsite looking for his Mistle Thrush he had earlier. No sign, but we got the male Redstart and flushed the Hoopoe not knowing it was there. Fortunatly it landed in the paddock behind the shop where we were able to creep up to it and observed it at close range before it flew off towards Peninnis. My first Sedge Warbler of the year was singing at Lower Moors and at the airfield held Green Sandpiper and 3 Skylark. The first male Pied Flycatcher of the year was at Innisidgen and a few of us twitched it unsuccessfully. On our ways up there, Will scott called to say that he had just found 2 Hoopoe at Sandy Lanes.

Also on St Mary's there were the Osprey, 1 Hoopoe, 1 Night Heron and 2 Jack Snipe all at Lower Moors.

From the 7th-10th april, Graham totals on St Agnes included, I Nightengale, 1 Night Heron, 200 Song thrush, 75 Robin, 80 Meadow Pipit, 25 Ring Ouzel and Fieldfare, 70 Chiffchaff, 20 Willow Warbler, 5 Tree Pipit, 3 Blue-headed and 1 Yellow Wagtail, 6 Redstart, 2 Black Redstart and 6-7 Hoopoe! Of the latter species it's possibly as many as over 20 birds so far have arrived on scilly.

With so many Hoopoe around, I had to get some better photos of one eventually. However, I'm still yet to find my own.

A lot of Meadow Pipit have moved out

Willow Warbler

Male Blackcap

There were less Continental Song Thrush around today. So how do you tell a Continental from our resident Song thrush? Continentals feed in small flocks, you can't get 100 meters near them and fly more than a few meters off the ground and land 100 miles up road. Our residents birds feed out of your hands and walk into our houses when they feel like it.

And Chesney having a bad hair and beard day. You still turn me on mate!

Been listening to the pines today. Great band Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Pines fuse the spare acoustic sound and evocative storytelling of folk music with the eclecticism and attitude of rock & roll. the Pines were formed in 2002 by vocalists, guitarists, and songwriters David Huckfelt and Benson Ramsey; while both men were born and raised in Iowa, they happened to meet while they were living in Tucson, Arizona, and after discovering they were of similar minds musically, they began writing songs together.
