Glaucous Gull at Trench Pool

This 1st winter Caspian Gull is still the main attraction at Trench Pool at the moment

Except for Monday, when I made a trip to Bristol, I've seen the 1st winter Caspian Gull every day at Trench Pool and on the 10th it was joined by a record of 3 1st winter Common Gull in the roost. Yesterday, a birder that had been observing the roost at the other end of the pool from Dave Tromans and I, had a 3rd winter Caspian Gull! However, tonight there was no sign of the any Caspian Gulls, but I was kinda of surprised when I saw a white-winged gull coming in and it turned out to be juvenile Glaucous Gull! Like every evening, only about 15 large gulls come into roost with some 1500 Black-headed Gulls and there is always something of interest with them. A pair of Gadwall have been on the pool for the last two days and there is now only 4 Shoveler present.

Juvenile Glaucous Gull at Trench Pool is only the second site record and quickly follows the first site record of last weeks Iceland Gull

On Monday, we made a visit to burton upon Water where Black-headed Gulls take to the trees in the Cotswolds
