 Approaching the hides at Porth Hellick this morning, I could hear a Reed Bunting calling in the far reeds. I didn't have much time and noted down the single female Pochard, Wigeon and the pair of Teal on the pool. A quick look at the beach and there were 2 Black Redstart, including a beauty of a male that had probably just arrived on the island! Like Firecrest I can never get bored of male Black Redstart, but a helicopter was coming into the airport in ten minutes and had to make a move. I called Martin to come and take some shots of the Black Red and later in the evening he told me that there were 4 Black Red present on the beach!

 Still looking for the first Wheatear and I thought the Golf Course would be a good bet. All I managed was another Black Redstart at Carn Movel and a male Merlin flew out towards Samson. 2 of the 4 Canada Geese from Tresco were doing the rounds as they flew low over the airfield.

Later in the day, I had to pick up some leeks from Gorden Bird at Green Farm and had twenty minutes to spare. In the fields nearby there were 50+ Linnet and 7 Curlew. Also the imm/fem Common Scoter was still present in the harbour and the campsite held 5 White Wagtail and 8 Pied Wagtail.

The 2 resident Mute Swan were over Hugh Town

 

There was a fire out of control on Tresco this afternoon near the woodpile. Is was upsetting to see that it was in the area of dunes where the Short-eared Owls roost.
